Sri Varalakshmi Charitable Trust

Varalakshmi Kuteera

For self - reliant communities that grow and flourish Sustainable Housing Projects

Since its inception the SRI VARALAKSHMI CHARITABLE TRUST, Uppunda has been conducting numerous social -welfare programs. Organization has been donating regularly since its genesis to the elderly orphanage shelters. The underprivileged rural students have been presented scholarships to continue their education. This has helped several underprivileged students achieve their dreams.

Countless families live in simple thatched huts or dilapidated constructions that are not capable of sheltering them from the area’s extreme weather conditions or indigenous wildlife. They typically take refuge in grass and stick huts, and sometimes even on borrowed land. With no door for privacy, roofs that leak during the monsoon rains, and with fragile structures that are commonly destroyed by cyclones, life’s challenges for these disadvantaged adults and children are multiplied manifold. Seeing the plight of the nearly-homeless people in the Udupi district of Karnataka, India, the Varalakshmi Charitable Trust was impelled to help create Free Sustainable Housing.

Many rural areas in India lack proper shelter for people. In South India, of the 300 million households surveyed, an overwhelming majority (73%) live in remote regions of the state in villages. Of this rural population, less than 5% earn enough to pay taxes, only 2.5% own a 4-wheeler vehicle and less than 10% have salaried jobs and are deprived from modern living.

SOORU – House constructing project: Home is a very basic essential for every human. We have successfully constructed 13 homes in two years for the poor fisherman community in tribal and rural areas. 6 ongoing projects and received 130 new applications. The Sri Varalakshmi charitable trust motive is to reach the needy with the basic shelter. Looking into our Services people of different places started approaching for the same as a single helping hand couldn’t satisfy all. Being very much concerned on the society looking forward for the organization or corporate support to help in funding to complete the projects. Trust is approaching corporates for CSR support for the project which will be really helpful for the needy helping hands are better than the Praying lips.
